Forest Sector and Carbon Market
The OLOLT Center took part in the 6th national conference themed "CURRENT STATUS AND FUTURE TRENDS OF FOREST RESTORATION IN MONGOLIA," held on the occasion of the World Anniversary Day. During the event, the OLOLT center shared their expertise on the carbon market with forestry stakeholders. Furthermore, B. Chuluunkhuu, co-founder of the OLOLT Center, introduced the ongoing "Forest Carbon Program" (FCP), aiming to establish Mongolia's first voluntary carbon market mechanism.
Participating in the international carbon market requires professional expertise and substantial investment, often excluding many. Cross-border credit sales necessitate national-level permissions and registration, along with compliance with non-double counting regulations for greenhouse gas reductions. However, she emphasized that nurturing the domestic market with localization of methods and processes will enable participation of diverse stakeholders as well as potentially contribute to Mongolia's national objective of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and advancing sustainable development goals.
